A useful first round

How to use the business name generator

A strong search starts with a useful word, rather than a finished name. Try one idea at a time so you can see which direction gives you something to build on.

Enter a meaningful keyword

Start with your service, a material or the result your customers want. A bakery might try bread, grain or morning. Use a single clear word for your first search.

Add your industry

Choose the closest industry to get a more relevant set of keyword suggestions. A suggested tag puts a word in the search field. You can change it before generating another round.

Keep a few directions

Write down the ideas that fit your brief and why they work. Change the keyword to explore a different angle. Your shortlist can include a whole name, a useful word or a combination you want to develop.

Change the input, change the direction

What should you enter?

Your business category is only one possible starting point. Search separately for what you offer, how it feels and what changes for the customer. Compare the ideas instead of putting every detail into one long phrase.

What you do

Use a concrete product, service or material. These words keep the search close to your offer.

Try: coffee · timber · design · garden

What customers gain

Name the outcome people are looking for. This can take you beyond a literal description of the job.

Try: clarity · comfort · growth · balance

The feeling you create

Think about the atmosphere or personality you want to communicate. Choose words your customers would understand.

Try: calm · bold · playful · bright

Business name ideas in different styles

A name can explain your offer, suggest a feeling or give you an invented word to build a brand around. Use these fictional examples to decide which approach fits your project.

Clear & descriptive

Cedar & Grain

A possible direction for a wood workshop: familiar material words help people picture the craft.

Starting words: wood · grain · craft

Warm & evocative

Sunday Cup

A cafe direction that suggests a slower moment. The feeling leads; a descriptor can explain the offer.

Starting words: pause · cup · slow

Short & invented

Veluno

An invented direction with room for different products. You would need to teach people what the business does.

Test: sound · spelling · associations

From ideas to a decision

Which business names are worth keeping?

Choose three to five candidates with different strengths. Record one sentence about what each name should communicate. This gives you a reason to compare them beyond “I like it”.

  • Say it: introduce the business aloud. Does the name feel natural in a conversation?
  • Spell it: ask someone to write it after hearing it once. Note where they hesitate.
  • Place it: try it on an invoice, a shop sign or a simple website heading. Check that it works without a long explanation.
  • Ask about meaning: find out what people expect the business to offer before you tell them.
  • Leave room: consider whether the name still fits if you add a product, serve a new audience or change location.

Then research similar business and brand names, domains and social handles. An available domain does not settle every question about a name. Use specialist checks and appropriate advice before committing to a launch.

Business name generator FAQ

Is this business name generator free to use?

Yes. You can use the generator on this page to explore ideas. NameRobot's other products are separate services; their own websites explain the available features and pricing.

What keyword should I start with?

Enter one clear word about your product, service or customer benefit. For a cafe, try coffee first, then a different angle such as pause or morning. The field needs at least three characters.

Can I generate names for a specific industry?

Choose the closest industry in the form or start with one of our 158 industry guides. Each guide has its own examples and keyword ideas.

Are the suggested names available to use?

A suggestion is an idea to investigate. It does not confirm that the name, domain or social handle is available, or that it can be registered as a trademark. Research each shortlisted candidate before you use it.

Should my business name include my main keyword?

It can, especially if clarity is the priority, but it does not have to. A name can also suggest a benefit or a personality. Compare how well each direction explains your business and how much explanation you are willing to add.

What should I do if the generator is unavailable?
